Alice in White Park
Maybe I’m exposing my own ignorance here, but what on earth is this White Park that shows up in Google maps? Clearly “Gloven Field” is incorrect (it is supposed to be Glover Field) but White Park is news to me.

Spanning much of the land that is slated for eventual development by Greenstone, we wonder if the above area would be more appropriately labeled White Parking Lot.
I wonder what documents the Google team draws upon when they create these maps? Was there a White Park on the books somewhere back in our City’s history? Not apparently. Searching for White Park Spokane results in a bunch of directions to Aubrey L. White Park up by the Little Spokane.

Weird. Did you report the problem to Google? there is a button in the bottom right hand corner to report problems. I reported a problem with the Post falls Idaho map back in January. In that case it was a weird bug where incorrect street names were showing up along side the numbered avenue names. I reported it and a month later got a response from Google saying I was right about the problem. So far they still haven’t fixed it though.
I’d check with the Parks Dept and talk with an old-timer. Bet it can be found in some long-forgotten Master Parks Plan. Something post-Expo.
You know, I grew up in West Central pre Expo, and there never was a park there. I think its a mistake. There used to be a produce warehouse in that area once upon a time. Just right off the railroad tracks. But a park, never.
It’s been house since the 50′s. I asked mom and dad…
I meant something planned at one time, but never realized.
Not a house or park since 1970. As Andrew said, it was a GIANT warehouse for produce or whatever. It stretched from Monroe for quite a ways.
Obviously it’s a google error. Maybe based on past park in 1900′s? Or planned future park for the AMAZING Kendall yards project…
Almost certainly a Google mistake. Note also they don’t show Veteran’s Court Park (the north Falls overlook) or Huntington Park (the Avista-controlled park) on the southern bank of the Lower Falls. I’ve seen the Kendall plans, and this ain’t in it currently. The border of this “White Park” follows slope contours developed when railroads backfilled the entire northern shoreline in this area, so it isn’t a park from pre-1920, and I’ve got photos showing no such park after the railroads made their mark…
Jim Frank from Greenstone Homes says, move the park 300 feet south and it is in the right place. It is the hillside below our Kendall Yards property.
I messed up…sorry. I thought Mariah was thinking of Glover Field by the Jr High. That’s been houses forever. Not sure what this one is. Sorry for my misunderstanding.
Well macamidaa nuts, how about that.
