Gift from the Geriks
Spokane writ 581 x 154 pixels in orange and lime!

Gerik Asher, in case you weren’t aware, is a street art duo bent on adding a little color and whim to the city of Spokane. This panorama can’t be done justice squeezed into the confines of our WordPress software, so you’ll just have to imagine it writ large across an underpass or other concrete surface somewhere.
The mural plans of some Peaceful Valley friends inspired us to think about how this streetscape would look painted across the hall in our new apartment. Or maybe it was urging participants of Leadership Spokane at Interplayers to get creative in buying local to support the arts.

Either way, this brings up another fun concept: What if there was an apartment design open house that functioned as a low-income alternative to the Live It Up! condo and loft tours? The emphasis would be on how to live a creative, sustainable and local lifestyle on a budget.
It would be a social event, like a more proper and public version of the Booze Walk, but on a large scale with tastefully incorporated promotion for local services and business. It would improve people’s familiarity with their neighbors and neighborhoods, improve our “local style quotient,” and could motivate some outstanding cooperative grassroots effort overall.

That would be wonderful. If only there were such a push to design really good low income housing in our city…
GREAT ART!
So awesome Cain and Todd! I, once upon a different life, dated a guy who works in city planning for Spokane and area (Chaz Bates) and a few friends with PJALS there too. I think that you have a great idea, and inspiring! Next time I’m “home” I’ll have to look you all up!
