Happy Birthday Blog!
A lot has changed over the last twelve months. Venues and restaurants have come and gone, and countless numbers of people have too. KYRS Thin Air Radio has a whole slew of new shows on the air, and is getting ready to reach Chewelah, Loon Lake and Deer Park with 6,000 watts of new broadcasting power. Projects that started on the drawing board last year have proven successful and are poised to come back bigger and better in 2009.

With the turning seasons and sense of possibility in the air, you wouldn’t guess we’re in recession by walking the streets of Spokane. Yet concerning realities loom on the horizon as we face an unstable and uncertain future. Some are better able to anticipate and adjust to the coming changes than others.
This spring and summer we challenge you to take proactive measures like riding your bike and re-evaluating your diet, which can be good for both you AND your budget. A friendly segue into the sustainability lifestyle (with a bonus dose of quirky humor) is Fresh – Fresher – Freshness! the official blog of Fresh Abundance, Spokane’s local community-based grocery.

Last weekend we bus-pooled with a friend to Spokane’s Community Roots Local Market, held the 2nd Sunday of each month at 2015 N. Division. There we were floored by the attendance, quality of vendors and general sense of enthusiasm in the air. Most notable (to us) were Polly and Ester, exciting developments at the P.E.A.C.H. Valley Farm, and Slide Sideways, a new graphic design and screen printed goods duo that recently came to Spokane from over-crowded and snobby Seattle.
In celebration of our first birthday, we are going to buy local and purchase this rad Let the Sun Shine In poster for our new apartment in Browne’s.
Happy freckling!

Yay for the local market! I’m definitely going to buy that poster or the Balloonists Beware one. I love them. Oh, and of course I love everything Polly and Ester does. They could make something out of a stick and I would think it was the greatest thing ever.
Congratulations Spovangelist! I’ve enjoyed your perspectives, observations, and intellectual thoughts over the past year and look forward to more in the future. You rock!!
good job, I hope those 1.25people can keep it up.
Congratulations and good work Mariah! I have enjoyed this year of Spovangelist and benefited in many ways from the discussions you have started here and the ideas you have highlighted. You are an important leader of our community discussion in Spokane–a city that desperately needs your challenging criticism, your boundless creativity and your generous optimism.
Your cream rose to the top of the spoblogosphere in year one. Can’t wait to see what the terrible twos hold in store. Happy birthday to you; happy birthday to us!
