The Bold, The Brave, The Beautiful
One evening last summer I conjured up the courage to go to a Jason Mraz concert by myself. Bad idea. As I stood in a sea of happy couples I became punch drunk from all the love in the air and had to bail. I retreated to O’Doherty’s and innocently walked into a bunch of young, strapping military men new to Spokane. Perfect. I started up a conversation with one of the soldiers which quickly turned into a venting session about all the puppy love back at the show.
Poor guy! In true military form, he patiently and respectfully listened to my woes and offered to buy me a drink. He then retreated back to his fellow soldiers and I enjoyed my beer at the bar by myself. After another hour he came back and explained my problem. Suddenly, a familiar Top Gun song started to play and I was surrounded by a bunch of dudes in duds confirming that I had indeed lost that lovin’ feeling.
Call me old fashioned, but there is nothing quite as arousing as a room full of uniformed men belting out the reason for my heartache. God Bless America! If young folks in uniform are your style, check out some of Spokane’s sexy single soldiers. There are thousands more where these two came from, so salute your friends in uniform today and blow them a kiss from me.

About the Author
hotties in uniform! great post! I’m glad the fellow listened to your woes and bought you a beer and sang to you – that’s really sweet!
What’s most impressive about this post is you went to a concert by yourself. What woman would do that? Not many. Despite you categorizing it as a bad idea, I’d disagree.
To Jim- Thanks, I think? I guess I didn’t think too hard about the awkwardness of going to a concert by myself. A Jason Mraz concert is not the place for a single, slightly bitter, lonely girl. The guy next to me was holding his girlfriend, swaying to the music and singing the lyrics. I was distinguished. Then I look over and he’s crying! That’s about the time I left. I wanted to hand him a tampon as I walked out but there was no reason to ruin his evening. Maybe next time I’ll try a Ani DiFranco concert. No one hates men like she does.
I have a great idea to you, Spovangelist! Write a book
While a relatively simple story, you ooze with sentimentality in each phrase. You seem to capture the transcendent qualities of each human being, the qualities/emotions so intrinsic that is the only true commonality in this vastly overpopulated world.
