The Spovangelist

A mid-sized city miracle!

Always keeping me engaged in the issues important to our community and striving to shed light on the diversity of Spokane, the Spovangelist is not only a resource for the many of us still trying to figure this city out, but a resource for those looking to fall back in love with the Lilac City.  With each post I find myself reinvigorated to fight for what’s important and inspired to seek out new solutions and new rabble rousers to share in the fun with.

When Mariah McKay has something to say, it’s always worth an ear or two. Forget the brick and mortar, the arts of sound and canvas, and even the cuisine for a second. One of the best new things about Spokane is Mariah McKay’s year-and-a-half old Spovangelist blog which, among other things, is a radically fresh experiment in looking at contemporary Spokane. … About as sparkling a piece of prose as we’ve come across lately. Enjoy and by all means go enroll at The Spovangelist for regular doses.

Tim Connor, The Center For Justice

I want to affirm that indeed what’s going on in Spokane and Millwood and the West Valley is significant and important and interesting. We don’t need a New York Times journalist to tell us that. It’s up to those of us who dwell in these places to pay attention and tell the story in all of its ordinary glory. It’s a story in which we are all co-creators and co-authors of some hopeful new future that is unfolding in real places among real people.

Amen to that.

Craig Goodwin, Year of Plenty

I have to admit, I’m feeling warm-fuzzies for Spokane right now. Spokane continues to melt my icy attempts to disregard its winning qualities. … Spokane even has its very own visionary, The Spovangelist,  imagining Spokane’s potential and pushing the rest of us to get off our backsides to make that vision a reality.
